The Somali Agriculture and Community Care Organization (SACCO) was founded in response
to the growing challenges faced by Somali communities, particularly in agriculture, food
security, and access to basic social services. Decades of conflict, climate change, and
economic instability have significantly impacted the livelihoods of rural populations in Somalia,
where agriculture remains the backbone of the economy. SACCO was established to bridge the
gap between the pressing needs of farmers and vulnerable communities and the lack of
sustainable solutions.

SACCO was founded by a group of Somali professionals, community leaders, and agricultural
experts who recognized the urgent need to promote sustainable farming practices, foster rural
development, and improve community care services. The organization’s founders were driven
by a shared vision of empowering Somali communities to become self-reliant and resilient to
external shocks such as droughts, floods, and market disruptions.
